“Yes.” I became floored with the implication of so many bunnies having been in contact with me and this new revelation. “I hang around many bunnies. I think that might be it. They did say that I had an e ect on their mana powers.

Maybe there’s a reverse e ect as well?”

“You got the mana mumbo,” the Rabbit concluded, “and you got the shadow jumbo. What’s the plan now?”

“The goal is to take back all of my stu as quickly as possible,” I started, “which might require that I can actually hold up in a fight. I’ll have to get a better handle on being a shadow monster before I can confront the real one, or work on how I’m going to convince everyone that I’m the real me.

But before all of that, I’m going to get you out of there.”

“What?” he looked at me with his unseeable face of surprise, “Don’t you have a whole lot of stu to do? Why don’t you do that before you free me?”

“You saved my life, Shady,” I responded, “And you gave up your ability to walk around in the real world to do it. Least I can do is at least try to get you out. It’ll be part of my practice before I fight myself.”

“I mean, thank you, but,” Shady, newly christened and confused, stared at me with his blank expression of darkness, “it seems that you have me confused with… a Wolf noble somehow? I distinctly remember telling you I was a chamberpot attendant. And also I’m a Rabbit.”

“And now you have a name,” I finished for him. “You are now Shady. It’s like your new job title, but you’ll be doing all

kinds of things besides what it might suggest. You’ll get used to it. Just respond to the name for now, and I can explain it more later.”

“My new what?” he was definitely not processing the ideas yet, by his tone alone, “I don’t have to wash chamber pots anymore?”

“Well, I mean, even I’ve washed a chamber pot or two from time to time, and I’m lord of the household,” I split my focus between the conversation and the shadow door conjuring, “We all have our jobs in the household, even me.

And we all have names. It’ll take a bit to adjust, but you’ll get the hang of it in no time. For now, just hang tight.”

“But I’m not…” Shady visibly blinked rapidly with his body language. “Are you taking me into your household, Mr.

Hunter?”

“The hare who saved my life?” I answered, “How could I not? I need as many life-saving hares as I can get my grubby little hands on. And you can call me Hank. Or Dragonoak.

Everyone throws in the ‘your grace’ or ‘my lord’ fillers in there, but that’s totally optional. Would you be open
